Myanmar Jade ~~

An unidentified Chinese merchant rests beside a jade stone, with a price tag of Euro 2.2 million (U.S.$ 3.42 milion) on display at the 45th Annual Gems Emporium held at Myanmar Convention Center in the country's biggest city Yangon Tuesday March 11, 2008. Myanmar is one of the biggest jade and gems producing country in the world and international auctions are a major revenue earner for the ruling military junta. Merchants from China and Hong Kong usually constitute the largest contingent of buyers at the auctions. Myanmar earns nearly 300 million dollars from selling gems, during the fiscal year 2006-2007.
